Battle Merchants NYC release party tournament – The Uncommons

uncommons

The Uncommons Battle Merchants NYC release party tournament will be at The Uncommons game cafe in New York City on Saturday, August 23. The tournament will start at 1 pm.

The Uncommons charges a $5-per-player fee.

These rules are subject to change as we approach the event.

Registration will be on-site. There will only be eight slots. First come, first served! If you miss the tournament, you will still be able to play a demo game, so everyone who wants to try to be a Battle Merchant should get a chance.

No experience is necessary with the game, as it will be taught to all new players. But of course, experience helps! Even reading the rulebook early helps. Download it here.

The tournament will run two rounds. The first round, starting at 1 pm, will consist of two simultaneous 4-player games with “vanilla” rules. The top two players of each game will all play in the final. In case of a tie for second place, standard Battle Merchants tiebreaker rules apply (surviving Standard Weapons get $2, surviving Vorpal Weapons get $3, highest tiebreaker amount wins). Any remaining ties will be resolved randomly.

The final will be played with “The Pointy End” variant, in which the player with the fewest points in Defeated Weapons at the end of the game will lose, regardless of how much money he or she has.

The final will start at 4:00 pm.

I will be the sole referee for the event. If I am called to make a decision during the event, that decision is final and binding. No whining please!

The tournament winner will receive a trophy. All entrants will receive a “Battle Merchant” stackable badge ribbon, and the four finalists will each receive a “Finalist” stackable badge ribbon. (Nobody will be wearing badges at this event, but it’ll be a cool conversation piece for your next convention’s badge…)

Good luck, Battle Merchant!
